Ughhh the device can be a bit frustrating. The build quality is not great (I have wonky loose power button), the keyboard sometimes has a mind of its own but gets the job done and the most annoying thing of all is the fact that the controller if the device sleeps, doesn’t wake with it. This results in either having to constantly hibernate the device and or restart it each time you want to play.

For anyone having SD/MicroSD disconnect/reconnect issues, the wonderful Ciphray has found a temporary solution that will work until GPD comes up with a fix. It lowers your SD readers speeds to USB 2.0 speeds, but they will stop having problems. The 780M iGPU is falsely reported as 760M with the drivers from the inital launch from AMD.(See below for fix) Fallout 4, Skyrim (enhanced edition), Prey, Far Cry 5 and the more recently released Outer Worlds. All have worked great when you find their sweet spot and 60fps low to medium settings is not out of the question.As expected everything we tried works great on PlayStation 2. You can lower the TDP and/or increase the screen rendering for higher quality visuals. You should not have any issues at all with PS2. PlayStation Portable – PPSSPP I genuinely believe that with some solid driver updates this device would be perfect but for now I have a few little irritations hence the 4 stars. The GPD WIN MAX 2 supports up to 32GB of LPDDR5-6400 MT/s RAM and up to 2TB of SSD supporting up to m.2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe 2280 SSD. There is an additional slot on the rear of the Windows Handheld for up to 2TB m.2 PCIe 3.0 SSD. The AMD model is to put it quite simply a beast! It has far higher performance than any of the previous handhelds from GPD, AYANEO and ONEXPLAYER. If this is the first of next-generation handheld gaming PC’s to set the bar, then we can’t wait to see what the others can do. In our temperatures, fan noise and battery tests we are running Street Fighter 6 on a loop to get the required measurements. We got a highest temperature of 62 degrees and 62 decibels of fan noise under full load. The battery lasted just over 2 hours which is a nice improvement on the 1 hour 45 on the Ryzen 7 model. And while idle on the desktop it managed just under 9 hours, a little longer than the Ryzen 7 model. The fewer cores and threads probably help there. Benchmarks

The WIN 3 weighs approximately 560g, and with dimensions of 198x98x.27mm, it’s really puts the “portable” in portable gaming pc. With 3x3950mAh batteries as well, enjoy between 3 to 14 hours of usage (actual usage time depends on stress/load). Touch screen deadzones. Make sure all corners of the screen can be touched correctly. (I'd recommend touching and dragging each corner on the desktop to test this) Next in our GPD WIN MAX 2 review, some gameplay tests! For these we are running at a balanced 28W TDP at 800P with playable or as close to playable settings as we can. Forza Horizon 5 Emulation wise I have been playing Metroid Prime and F-Zero GX at X2 native resolution and they run full speed with no issues.

Workarounds SD card slots disconneting constantly workaround, credits to ciphray#8122 on discord for the workaround, credits to Xryptic#5251 on discord for the instructions. Powering the GPD WIN MAX 2 is a 67Wh Li-polymer battery providing up to 14 hours of light use, 6-8 hours moderate use and 3 hours of heavy use. In our own tests on the handheld we ran Cinebench on full load at maximum brightness and got 2 hours 5 minutes. Make sure screen is glued correctly (Some dude could see into his unit through a gap in the upper half of the screen lmao)If you fancy delving into the past you can play your retro game ROMs, that you definitely own! You can use emulator frontends such as RetroArch or individual emulators such as RPCS3 for PlayStation 3. By adding your own ROMs you can capture the past in the present day and play all of your favourites from your GPD WIN MAX 2 2023.

The device / controller rumble is annoying and far from immersive as they claim. It's more like a mosquito than a rumble and I find it highly annoying so try to disable it in game wherever possible. Do a full scan for malware with Microsoft defender. It should catch whatever worm or virus if any. Or just reinstall OS if you aren't lazy like me.
