About this deal

If designer Lee Mathews, founder of her eponymous brand had to choose one wardrobe philosophy to stand by, she says, “it would be to design clothes that resonate deeply with people’s lives, clothes that are functional and beautiful, that are ageless and simple and that you can throw in a bag and travel the world”. Experimenting with each new collection, Mathews finds inspiration in the abstract, from painterly colours, textures and patterns, along with art and architecture, and forever driven by craftsmanship. A creative eye that feels quintessentially Australian, Matthews' feminine offering is instantly recognizable with expert pleating, feather-light fabrications, and magical prints. Their first collection was made from artists’ canvas in seven sizes, enabling “everyone and anyone, irrespective of age, gender or size” to wear their clothes the way they wanted. A giant label was stitched into each garment bearing the names of each individual maker and the name(s) of each owner – the idea being that the piece is handed down and/or around between friends and family. “There was an intention behind what we were doing, both in the shape-making and in the longevity of each piece,” Toogood says.

When we unboxed this design studio off the bat, we loved how easy it was to assemble the design studio. We've witnessed balletcore come to the fore, and designer Caroline Reznik is a person who understands the category intimately. A former professional dancer, when Reznik retired she followed the footsteps of her mother, also an ex ballerina who pivoted to a career as costumier for the Australian ballet. After a stint at Whitehouse Institute of Design and later, the University of Technology, Sydney, Reznik founded her own eponymous label, creating textured bodysuits and skin-baring pieces that have caught the attention of Doja Cat, Kendall Jenner and Rosalía to name a few. His succinct collection of bags, belts, wallets and pouches has altered very little in the decade since its inception. Inspired in part by functional, hard-wearing military wear (a Swiss ammunition pouch he found at a market; an old aviator’s kit bag), his designs are clean, minimal and durable with no visible brand name or logo. “The leather tote bag is incredibly simple,” he says. “It’s just one piece of leather folded in half with minimal stitching. It’s made from a really nice weight of leather that won’t stretch or break. It’s always about keeping the right proportions and letting the design and the material do the talking.” Awash with colour and engulfed in aestheticism of the eclectic, Jordan Gogos is a multi-disciplinary artist whose debut at 2021 Afterpay Australian Fashion Week showcased a collaboration with 25 different artists and brands including Albus Lumen and Qurated. Pieces are considered wearable art, known for their bold colouring, experimental silhouettes and energising presence.

Develop critical tools to appreciate and contextualize fashion design—from everyday clothing to couture garments—through many different perspectives. Trace the history, development, and impact of garments over time, and explore how they may be reinvented. By now you would have witnessed the absolute frenzy that follows when Daisy Ltd. release a new collection. Previously worn by Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Lily-Rose Depp, Renee and Gibson Fox have the midas touch when it comes to designing pieces most likely to go viral. It's sexy and goth, a place of respite from linen dresses with floral prints.

(She cites the raincoat her father gardened in as an early source of inspiration.) Nowadays, her ideas might be informed by social documentary photography – “Images of real people wearing their clothes,” she says, simply. Other times, it might be someone she sees on the street: “A workman in his dungarees or overalls, that sort of thing.” We began designing outfits for the photographer, the acrobat, the road sweeper, the oil rigger’: Faye Toogood, designer, artist in her studio in Camden.
