About this deal

A defrost setting for toasting from frozen. You find this on all but the very cheapest toasters these days. Again, I ask myself, who the hell toasts bread from frozen? But each to their own. You can see the result below, which are again affected by the Dualit’s unusual design. On a typical pop-up toaster the moving section at the bottom of each slot is designed to hold the bread fairly upright, usually with an indentation in the middle. On the Dualit these are just dead flat blades of metal, which means the toast tends to fall over to one side of the slot. This puts it closer to the metal bars on that side, which means you get slightly lopsided toasting but there’s a big visual benefit as those bars create attractive stripes down the toast.

Toasted sandwich making. This isn't so much a setting as an accessory – a metal basket with a handle that you strap your bread and fillings into before placing it in a toaster slot. You can buy these for classy models from Dualit, KitchenAid and the like. Instead of having an electronic timer, the Dualit has a mechanical one, you simply twist it around to the time required and the heating elements come on for that amount of time. A single, manual lever moves all four slices of toast up and down. So to toast you pop in the bread, twist the timer, pull up the lever to lower the bread, wait till the timer pings and then raise the toast to get it out. There's a choice of 2- or 4-slice models in five colours, or purest, purist stainless steel. Obviously, you can buy far cheaper toasters that do almost much the same thing – in fact, there's loads of them in this very list. However, you can say the same thing about a Rolex, can't you? This won a T3 Award for best toaster last year and it has held on to its crown at the T3 Awards 2021 too.Externally, the toaster is dominated by brushed stainless steel, which looks great out of the box, though does show fingerprints over time. Nevertheless, once you’re past the styling, the high lift feature is a real boon for extricating hot toast without burning your fingertips. What we really like about this toaster though are the chunky and undeniably easy to use controls. A big old toasting level dial and bulky buttons for the likes of Reheat and Defrost functions make it a treat for those bleary-eyed breakfast duties. How to buy the best toaster Combining excellent engineering with functionality to give years of reliable use, you can count on your Dualit toaster to last a lifetime. All of the parts are replaceable or can be fixed, including the patented ProHeat elements.

While a new toaster isn't the most costly appliance you need to invest in for your home, the best on the market aren't exactly cheap. That's why we've put all of the toasters in this guide to the test - so that you know whether they are worth your cash before you part with it. During testing we were sold by the touch screen panel that you use for controls, and we loved the long, wide slots on offer too. How we test toasters If you have provided us with a mobile telephone number, DPD couriers will send a text message on the day of delivery advising of an approximate time slot for the delivery.Keep warm' functions, for those who don't immediately polish off their toast, but still want it warm when they return to it later. The genius of the toasting lever does not end there. If you want to keep your toast warm, you can have the elements off, but the lever down. This means that the residual heat from the toasting is used to keep your toast toasty. Or, at least, above room temperature. If the item was delivered by Royal Mail or if you collected the item yourself then you will be required to return it at your expense via the same method. As the title suggests, this toaster also has a feature that lets you add an extra 30 seconds to the toasting process. So if, for instance, the toast pops up and it’s still underdone, simply push the lever down again and tap the ‘A Bit More’ button and chances are it’ll pop up perfectly toasted and not burnt.

The original Vario toaster has always stood apart from the crowd as a truly British design classic that is the antithesis of today's throwaway culture. Now Dualit has come up with a new design star - the NewGen. Based on the same commercial design and boasting the same high quality, robust construction as the famous Vario, the NewGen is an updated model that offers a number of exciting new features. If there’s just one or two of you and you’re not a fan of fancy loaves then we’d say a simple two-slot model with just a couple of functions will probably suffice. Two slot models are also better if you’re a bit tight on space as it’s a product that usually has a permanent, easy-to-access home on your worktop. Incorporating these characteristics in to their famous toasters, the iconic British manufacturer has created an award winning product that lasts, the design of which has stood the test of time for over 60 years.
