About this deal

Can be displayed extended or retracted and is designed to allow the builder to install magnets (not supplied) for attachment. The previous release of the 12” version of the ship has always been well-received by fans and modellers everywhere. Although some subjects in their catalogue (science fiction and real aircraft) seem accurate, the Eagle and Ultra Probe are weirdly distorted and probably the least accurate models ever made. There are also blueprints reproduced from the Moonbase Alpha Technical Notebook and a short merchandise guide.

It's very modular and so there's quite a bit of repetition and there was a lot of clean up to be done after removing the parts from the sprue. Parts are provided in off-white, gray and clear, and the kit includes all necessary marking decals so it can be built without the need for paint if desired. They replace the VTOL engines under the ship and module as well as the main propulsion units; plastic baffles detail the last. They include three options for the crew module windows: blacked out, crew in helmets, or crew without helmets. The kit includes a stand, optional compressed and extended landing gear to pose it on the ground or in flight, and markings for three spacecraft. Model maker Jim Small's kits modify the MPC/Airfix/Ertl Eagle to match the varied configurations with a high degree of accuracy. MPC introduces this all-new, accurately proportioned, and detailed kit of the iconic spacecraft in a precise 1/72 scale which can be decorated in one of three ways.

I painted them flat black and installed the parts along with the flying display piece for the stand. By early 2009, the Eagle model improved in accuracy, with feet, fairly detailed leg pods and rear engines, but a weirdly spherical command module. Its design suggested insect-like features with swappable components such as its central "pod," which could serve as a personnel carrier, a rescue center or as a posh transport for V.

Construction and painting requires significant model making experience (the instructions are generally regarded as inadequate, although these have been expanded in later editions). Next, I jumped to Step 21 to build the cargo/passenger pod and painted it orange with gray window surrounds to represent a VIP module. Building the landing-leg modules presented no issues and I marked each one when finished to be clear about their locations. The opener to season two of Space:1999 introduced this fan-favorite variation of the Eagle Transporter.
