About this deal

This mud kitchen is unique as it offers 360 degrees of activities and fun features - with mud pie making and plant potting on one side and an easel for drawing and painting on the other. We think the products already look great but you may find the process of decorating your kitchen with your child as engaging and enjoyable a process as the playtime itself. With a real working tap, separate water dispenser and spacious basin, they can invent all sorts of exciting recipes.

Kids love getting grubby in the garden, digging in the soil, collecting leaves and generally enjoying the freedom of playing outside — and a mud kitchen is one way to allow them to safely explore this urge. This mud kitchen was an epic mission to put together though – it took two people the best part of a morning to build. This gives them a classic natural wood look which you will see from our photos looks terrific in the garden. Different ages will find different ways to play with a mud kitchen - that is the beauty of this type of wooden outdoor play equipment - the play possibilities are endless. It's reasonably sturdy but a little tricky to assemble: the instructions could be clearer and many of the wood pieces don't have predrilled holes. If you would like to know why children in year 1 and key stage 1 should still have access to a mud kitchen and play based learning, have a read of my post - should year 1 children still have continuous provision. An all-singing and dancing mud kitchen, the TP Deluxe is made from FSC-certified timber and features a four-ring hob, oven, blackboard, roomy splash tub, refillable water butt and working tap. Our little testers loved the multi-level shelves on the back board, which are drilled with holes to hold utensils, or to hold a funnel as they carefully make their creations. Without these technologies, things like personalised recommendations, your account preferences, or localisation may not work correctly. It allows kids to get messy and have fun in the garden, where the mess doesn't matter so much for parents!

Mud kitchens encourage children to use their imaginations and enjoy water and mud to create and develop in many different ways. if nothing else, a bucket or a bowl, pans, some sticks and some mud are all you really need to get going, the rest is down to your imagination!Even pre-made mud kitchens will need re-treating eventually, to keep them in good condition and to stop those pesky wasps stripping the wood!

We looked at how engaged our children were with playing with the kitchens, how large the workspaces were, if there were features like running water or cupboards, how long it took to put them together and how durable they are. If you are choosing a place for your mud kitchen at home or within a setting, finding a little cosy corner, or wall space will help to keep this separate from other areas which may be utilised outside. These can be made of metal, plastic or wood and usually consist of spoons, jugs, mashers and other useful items. Whether you are looking to encourage role play, speaking and listening, relationship building, mathematical concepts or simply to create a space where children can learn and explore and play with what they know or just make mud pies - a mud kitchen provides endless possibilities. Our younger testers loved the cupboard – just opening and shutting the door, tucking away treasures kept them entertained for ages. For added durability, this kitchen is heat treated to protect it against the elements – it certainly feels sturdy! After washing and and sanding down our mudkitchen, I put a wax treatment on the wood and then sealed the entire thing with yacht varnish. Made from natural wood, which has been treated to protect it from the elements, you can leave the kitchen outside but it's advised to cover it or bring it indoors in the autumn and winter.
