About this deal

In the meantime, I might finally reread The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, thanks to that series’ Greek setting, and maybe rewatch Mamma Mia. I could feel the author’s own enthusiasm for the subject come through in her writing, and it made me even more excited to continue reading.

Other than that… I’m not sure why they had to invoke Mamma Mia because this book was not as lighthearted as I expected. The sun dropped slowly, elegantly, like a lady sinking into a curtsy, getting redder and denser as it sank, inch by inch, into the ocean. There’s nothing wrong with cheerleaders, but I’d gone from these books about magical worlds, secret gardens, and spies and suddenly, the magic was gone, and it was all about popularity. The ending did make me feel emotional and I could see the outline of what was a beautiful story, however. Going to be honest, I liked the Love and Olives premise more than I did Love and Gelato, but I felt like Love and Gelato had better characters and a better plot.

Olive, now Liv, has avoided her father’s recent postcards, since he decided to take off back to Greece when she was eight without a word. The close quarters meant that I wasn't anticipating when Theo would be around again or how their relationship would progress because they had jumped like 10 whole relationship steps in the span of 5 pages. Let us begin with the first thing I realize, the reason why I dislike this book’s protagonist, Olive.

It’s very early in the process, so this might not even be relevant in a year, but I’m writing a book that is set in the United States, which is new to me!
